I got the glass as pre-cut sheets from Home Depot. Also, I got my glass cutter from there (same aisle, just above the glass). This is really thin, flimsy glass, so I always pick up a few extra sheets for mistakes and such. Sometimes there will be a piece that just wont cut right, too....so plan in running into that occasionally as well.
Once the pieces are cut, I also trim a small diagonal piece off the back end of one corner for airline and heater cord. In the past I have wrapped the edges of the glass in electrical tape....its ugly but not horrible and lasts a few months before coming off. This time, though, I wanted the edges sanded (wet) with sandpaper to dull them. Jim did most of that unpleasant job for me.
I also used silicone to put on some uber cheap knobs I got on clearance at Ikea a while back. I only put them on the front piece that gets opened on a mostly-daily basis for feeding.
Pics are of the type of glass I used, the notched corner in the back for cords, and a closeup of the knob.
