Going to try the black sand substrate route on my African show tank.. I was browsing around the forums and saw black diamond sand is a safe use..anyone know where to buy this? The closest tractor supply store is in Westminster.. Really want to avoid the trip up there unless I don't have a choice..any other stores selling this? 20/40 grit preferred.

If you do want to go the black diamond stuff, I have a Tractor Supply not far from me. Let me know and I'll pick you up what you need (if it's in stock) and bring it with me to AM2 when we meet up.

Not trying to step on toes or steal the thread but would you extend that offer. Obviously Aldrich has first dibs and if there is only a limited supply its his. If there is a few extra bags there I would be very interested. Please let me know.
Thanks
Dan

Bel Air Road supply on Pulaski Hwy. in Baltimore usually has it. Thats where I get my 100lb. bags of white Silica sand $10.00 each. I even send my wife and they load it in the Jeep for her. I love that place.

Is it black diamond or something else? I've used black diamond before and didn't like the slag pieces in it, looked like pieces of glass

There's different brands...not sure what Belair supply carries....only problem I had was it was to light to vacuum...you lose a lot thru the python..

Is it really recommended? Or would it be better to buy those cichlid sand from pet stores?
