Why is my water yellow???

This tank has been running around a month or so now, give or take. However, I just put the light on top last week for the first time. It is cycled, and things are fine. Fish are happy, sump working fine.

But for some reason, my water seems to have a yellowish tint to it. At first, I thought it was the light. But when I look at the light, it looks white to me. There is a large piece of driftwood in this tank, but the tint was there prior to me putting the wood in there. I hate the yellowish tint, because to me, it affects the color of the fish, imo... and I have no idea how photos are gonna come out.

Maybe simply dropping a bag or two of carbon in the sump could help? It's kinda annoying me.

Do you feed NLS? I have found that it tends to yellow the water a bit. Especially if I go more than a week on a water change.

Nope... I don't. And, this tank has only had fish in it for about a week or so. The yellow was there then... when I first put them in. I am trying to determine if it is the light (which looks white to me, when I look at it), the glass? I'm just not sure. I just do not want the yellow. I'm gonna have to do process of elimination. I'm gonna swap my lights on my 6 foot tanks first... this will help me eliminate that, and move to the next option...

did you have other "wood" in your tank? lmao sorry it sounds funny to me :)
LOL... Nah, just the one I got at the last meeting. I put it in there, put on the light, and bam... yellow water. I think. Or yellow lights, or yellowish glass. Something's yellow, dammit! LOL...

Carbon sounds like a good thing to try. If it will clear out Tetracycline (Brown Tint)it should clear that out. Or mabey a peice of foam with a higher density.

Read your initial post and it sounds like my thoughts were already addressed. In order, I would:

-Swap the light
-Check the glass covers
-Do a big water change
-Add carbon
-Stop peeing in the tank

Hope you can get it figured out.

One of these things should surely work.

Didn't even think about the glass tops! DOH! Will check those this evening...

Do you have a lot of iron in your tapwater? If your tap water has a lot of iron in it the water will turn yellow. Especially the longer it sits (such as in an aquarium). There are different heavy metal removal resins that can help clear it up. Carbon won't help with iron but will remove tannins and proteins that can be other causes of yellow water.

Nah... not the tap water. None of the other three tanks are yellow. Don't think its the wood either. The first time I saw the yellow water, was the day I put the wood in. As soon as I put the wood in, and put the light on top for the first time, and turned it on, and bam... yellow tint! So unless that wood can tint a 125 in about 2 minutes, it's not the wood.

I suspect the light, the glass tops, or the tank glass, if not the water itself. Ran out of time last night, but I did drop some carbon in the sump. Tonight, if still looking yellow, I will try taking of the tops, swapping the lights, etc., and get to the bottom of it once and for all.

Perhaps its your jaundiced view of the world?

Discourse with perennially gloomy negative folks like Tony can have that effect on a body.

ITS YOUR WOOD TANNING YOUR WATER. TRY THIS TEST ...TAKE YA WOOD OUT AND DO A WATER CHANGE.......LET IT RUN A DAY..THEN ADD YA WOOD BACK....IF IT TURNS YELLOW AGAIN ITS THE WOOD TANNING YA WATER.

Take a glassof water from the tap and look at it outside. If you had any driftwood in there at all, it is your
"wood"
