I am starting to have 2nd thoughts about driving out there.
I just found multiple flights for $120.00 roundtrip including tax from BWI to Cincy. I cant drive there that cheap. Direct flights too.
Darn. 1 3/4 hours vs 8+ hours.

Man I would go if it was closer.

LOL
Lets see, I have been to conventions in
Cincy,1
CT,1
Cleveland, 4 times
Denver,1
Chicago,1
Sacramento,1
Fortworth,1
Atlanta,1
Laurel, 4
Fallschurch. 1

The Sacramento was the farthest obviously. Spent some time in San Fran first.

My first ACA was in Cincy and I could not get off work until Friday at noon. The convention started Thursday. We drove out there Friday, got there like 930. No reservations...lol got lucky. Then drove back Sunday starting around 12. Wham Bam Thank you.....
Still I was hooked after that.

Now that was going out on Tuesday and coming back Monday like I plan to do. I did not check other dates.

I got that off Travelocity.com and it was Delta.

Also then you have to get to the convention from the hotel. did not check on that. I just could not believe the flight was listed as $101.00 plus tax. 120.00

According to the age poll you said "117, and feeling every bit of it." Maybe all these conventions are whats aging you. The rest of us have plenty of time to catch up. I'm still a young cichlidaholic, my disease is progressing and is sadly terminal. I will try to make it if I can carpool with some people. Remember a 1.5 hour flight still takes probably 5 hours when you consider getting to the airport early and such...

Yeah, I know. But at 14 - 15 mpg highway,in my truck, the price may also be cheaper. lol I still want room for when I win that 300 gallon tank they have.

Yeah, if you're bringing back something that big, there is a value in having the truck. You could charge people to haul stuff back for them. For people only bringing back fish, get 3-5 people in a passenger car getting 30mpg, split the gas and tolls and it doesn't work out too bad. I'm going to try to work this plan out, but I'm going to wait until closer to the convention to campaign for a tagalong.

I'd also love to go but with the distance my cars get 10 and 13-14mpg so it's def not cheap on the gas! If a car pool gets setup I'd also throw in on the gas and beer!

Sounds like a lot of people are up for this option. I think it will be a matter of coordinating schedules with when people are available to go down. I can't do more than a weekend trip due to work, plus I don't want to pay for a hotel for too many nights. Who wants to do a weekend trip and has a gas friendly car?

It might have big wheels, but it looks like a short bus to me. Everybody grab their helmet! I'm sure its great on gas too. We'd represent the CCA great showing up in that. Wasn't there someone who liked to lick the windows on the short bus?

You need to think it through. First, you have to drive to the airport (time there). Then, you have to be at the airport at least 1 1/2 hrs before the flight. Park the car (how much is parking?) or get a cab to get you to the airport ($$$$). Get from the airport in Cincy to the hotel (rent a car??? Hotel van??? $$$?) Will the flight be on time? In my life, I've flown about 30 times, and only twice was the plane on time (and that was, believe it or not, People's Express which is of course no longer around). Will you check your luggage ? More time at the turnstiles - and hope the luggage arrives on your plane! The big one - How are you getting fish there and back? Going through the airport with luggage is not fun. And fish will have to be checked nowadays (or shipped ahead?-more $$$$) Driving makes that much simpler. If you drive, you can take a side trip or too to check out something on the way, and have the car available for trips in the host city. I'm sure I missed some other considerations. For me, I've always felt that if it's an 8 hr trip or less, then driving is the way to go. 8-10 hrs is a crap shoot; longer than 10 hrs, fly if it's feasible.

Hey, I think that's $240 for you though isn't it? That lady isn't staying home while you have all the fun. This is just a rumor but I heard some of those folks only put up with you because she comes along. Just a rumor mind you.

You won't see me there. Cry for me. While some of you are having a blast at the ACA I'll be stuck deep in Peruvian Amazon mud doing a bit of fish collecting. Anyone who would like to come along might check the Margarita Tours web site and look at air fares. Flights to Lima are the cheapest they have been in the 9 years I have been going. If you ever wanted to do this, this is the cheapest you will ever get the chance.

I don't think the Convention is near the airport. Seems I remember Phil saying the cab/shuttle was $50 one way (I could be wrong - it has happened 1 other time).
