What Direction Are You Heading?

I find myself enjoying my large 210 community of CA cichlids. So much color, so many cool fish, all getting along nicely, and I have finally seemed to stop the hybrid spawning! LOL...

My two 125s... one will hopefully house a pair of festae. I hav a group and I am slowly moving to the stage of selecting the best few of the bunch... I have an incredible male, and some very nice females (thanks, tparker!)... getting close...

Other 125 will be home... temporarily... for a 7" pair of rio mag umbees I'm getting from an old friend in NYC.

Well Drew the dust is settling, the smoke is clearing. Designating 7'-210 to paratheraps. 6'-210 to "General Line" umbee pair, who are busy doing " tha nasty" (spawning) as I speak, 40 breeder black nasty grow outs, 40 breeder cubans w/ fry, 75 gal trimac pair × 2 w/ fry, 30 gal la ceiba, 90 gal kitumba blue zaire frontosa colony. RTM trio, amphilophus hogoraboom fry.
Really cut back as you can see. Lol

I'm really trying to go with the less is more approach. I'm a terrible fish hoarder - with so many cool fish out there, I find myself buying stuff I just don't have room for long term. I've still got some thinning out to do, and I have to figure out what I want to keep in my 180 long term. I just have too many fish in there that beat on one another.

I decided to go with a pair of midas in my family room 120. They are still small now, so they haven't decided to kill everything in the tank. There are a couple of fish in with them now so they have something to chase around the tank.

In my smaller tanks, I'm sticking with some smaller Central Americans - mostly my wild type cons and other cryptoheros.

I have over 50 tanks...and still feel like I don't have enough room!

The key for me is keeping only the fish that I like to keep, which is medium-sized new world cichlids :)

Tony, dovii?????? Jumping right in aren't we! Loving it keep it coming people.

Drew

Nah, that was just a weak moment at the last mini-auction. No one was bidding on them, so I raised my hand to open bidding, hoping someone else would jump on them. No one did, lol.

Immediately questioned what I had just done.. looking for comfort from Jon or Matt.

They both just laughed at me and told me I was an idiot.

Couldn't really disagree with them.

.....

Going to try to spawn them small and get rid of them before they turn monster.

Once they out grow every other fish you have you'll want to keep them. The personality of a fish like that is unparalleled. Looking forward to seeing them grow.

I knew you'd say something like that. :p

Only tank I have that can house something like those guys is the 180.... not sure if I'm that committed right now.

When I first joined CCA I kept Africans almost exclusively, now all but a couple of my tanks are New World.

My current favorites are my Coatepeque and Krobia. My favorite non cichlid that I'm keeping are my Characodon lateralis (Rainbow goodeids).
