Take my beautiful rainbow cichlid pair -- please!!

Jesse and I haven't been able to accomplish a hand off and I'm getting desperate. My sub-dom pair, which I'm keeping, is in a 20 gallon high right now. Most of their babies from their last spawn lived as there are no predators in there. I was able to give away a lot of them, but still have about 20! Now, darn it, the parents have laid eggs again. Arrrggh. I really need to move them into my 58, where the babies have much less likelihood of living. I can't manage all the offspring! But that tank already has my dominant pair in residence. I'm trying to give them away.

They are beautiful and could live nicely in a 30 gallon, maybe even 20 long. I'll need help retrieving them from my heavily planted tank. I'm in Gaithersburg . . .

Hi Holly,

I'm happy to take them...

I'll swing by later today or we can schedule a mutually convenient time.

Thanks,
Matt

Home delivery

The large pair in my 100 just laid at least 600-700 eggs (I kid you not) on a piece of slate and all but 10 or so appear to be fertile. Be worth putting a divider in there to keep the G.altifrons away just to see the resulting swarm of babies. It was impressive with just 200 or so - this could/should be amazing.

Am sure we all empathize Holly - if the babies make it to October 18th I'll be glad to distribute them at the Catfish Convention (along with some I have) but I probably won't drive up to Gaithersburg to collect them. But if you bring them and/or your pair to the next CCA meeting am sure I/someone will give them a good home, as they could doubtless also find at this weekend's PVAs meeting as well.

Just saw Matt's post - never mind. :D

Matt -- you are my hero!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be home this evening, probably after 6

Sam -- I am probably bringing some babies to the October meeting to give away. I also have three juveniles that if I can catch I may bring also to the meeting to give away or have you carry to the catfish convention for me (thank you!) Can you and I also do a hand off at the meeting of a nannacara pair for some BNs?

Matt is everyone's hero. Holly - if it's just the three rainbows then put them in the auction. And yes am happy to swap you a pair of NAs for some BNs provided they're the yellow kind - no use for the others as they get snarky and mostly seem to stop eating algae when they get bigger.

If showing up to take gorgeous, free fish makes me a hero...then I guess I am

Seriously though, Holly is one of the most kind and generous folks around and I'm more than happy to give this pair a good home!

I just wish that I kept any fish that were colorful and peaceful enough to trade...

Viva la CCA!

Mission accomplished last night thanks to Matt. No easy task to catch the two in a heavily planted tank. Then transferred the sub dom pair and their rock 'o eggs back into the palacial 58, leaving the passel of babies in the 20 gallon high. I swear I heard them yell woo hoo when the parents vacated the premises!!!!!!!!!!

Now onto Phase II. Sam -- watch your PMs

Boy, no kidding! They get scared quite quickly, and have an amazing ability to squeeze into very small places, perhaps because their native waters fluctuate in volume so much.

Thanks so much for the gorgeous pair of Rainbows, Holly!

I'd bet that 95% of CCA members haven't successfully bred these guys. And only a couple of folks (anyone?) have BAP points for them.

I know that several folks in the club are keeping and breeding them now ... which is a great opportunity to try something new!

I have a feeling that there will be some fry in the next monthly auction.

Actually, I was going to put some juveniles (about an inch long) in the next auction, mostly for BAP purposes.

Excellent - wouldn't it be awesome if you got extra BAP points for "1st spawned"? (Has anyone else submitted them before?)

Cleaning time

Holly - your mailbox is full. Who knew you were so sentimental?

Sam -- llooooovvvvveee them.
I made them a little area they can defend and hang out in. They seem to appreciate that. The juvie rainbows are investigating them, but so far playing nice. I really need to get them out of there . . .

Thank you for a lovely morning! Great fish, great company. Great grapes! And no cracks about my braces.
