Smaller canister filter?

I personally wouldn't have a single filter on a 55g+ tank, the redundancy is really handy.

We had a canister leak literally an hour before leaving for vacation, because we had two n the tank we could just disconnect and leave it until we got back. If we had only the single filter it would have been tricky.

I run an FX5 on my 75 also. Love love love it. I ran a pair of ac110's on my 55 back in the day, and always had issues with them. Canister is the way to go. I just put a magnum 350 on my mothers 55g and it's doing well.

Getting back to the "smaller" aspect. The only reason I'm erring away from the fx5 is the massive size of the unit. So...., is there a smaller sized unit Hagan or Eheim that suits a 75g, that there is a consensus of opinion as to quality? I may buy one of both manufacturers for my own side-by-side comparison, one on the 75 and the other on a 55. There are sooo many Eheims to choose from, just doing the research can make you dizzy!
So, Hagan AND Eheim, medium NOT massive size. Suggestions please?

I have an Eheim 2217 on a 55 gallon tank. I think you could get away with it on a 75 (the seller had used it on a 90 gallon tank), but some would opt for a bigger filter. It's quiet and reliable.

I have two Fluval 405 canister filters on my 75g tank, and I love having both on there. Sometimes I notice that one has a lower flow than the other one, which usually tells me that needs to be cleaned. It's either the spray bars are clogged, the filter needs to be cleaned out, or the intake as some plant material that clogs up the intake "basket". Having the two filters running at the same time helps with the large bio-load, and I don't have to rush to take care of the filter right away because the other one will help compensate for the first one's lower flow.

I also have a Marineland C-530 canister filter on my 40 breeder, but I'm using that more for a river tank. I'm hoping to upgrade to a 75g or 90g in the future, and the Marineland filter will be transferred to that tank. It's massive and probably along the same lines as an FX5, but I like it.
