Sciaenochromis fryeri "White Knight"

I really like this fish, but i am concerned in getting one due to the fact i currently have a normal one.

This is for an all-male tank, and currently most are 3" in a 75g tank, later to be moved to at least a 125, if not something 6x2x2 in the coming weeks.

Would i be able to keep a male "White knight" with another Male Sciaenochromis fryeri?

I think you can.. As long as you are not breeding and its for show purposes (all male) you can keep males of the same family.. But there are some who don't like males from the same family in with them.. I guess because they squabble over territory.. I think there are more experienced keepers who can shed light on this matter as I'm a newbie as well..

Ime its situational I have a P.taeniolatus chizumulu who will not tolerate a regualar taeniolatus even though the look totally different they are still the same species and the tangerine tiger must not realize he looks different:). On the other hand I had a reg. Fryeri and an iceburg and they don't mind each other at all. My best advice is that if one of them is the dominant fish he probably won't tolerate the other if they are both towards the bottom of the pecking order they will probably be okay. Also if you get them both at the same time or if they are both small when introduced they should grow to tolerate each other. If the regular one is an iceburg he may not show the white blaze as much if he is intimidated by the white one.

I think Cichlidaddicted is right on. I probably don't have nearly the experience of him but I have a Albino Fryeri and a regular in the same all male tank with no issues. I also have a Mbuna all male with several of same species and alot of similar type fish and most are fine, I have however had a Hara get knocked and stressed to death by another Hara and a Purple Lion get severely bullied by a Sanga. I have a tank full of different color/type A.Comps with no issues as well. Its a try and see type thing.

By the way, Where are you finding a White Knight? I can't find those **** things anywhere. I can get all the albino I want but can never find Knights

Thats what i figured, more of a try and see kind of thing.

Ive had the normal fryeri (maleri isl)since ive setup the tank, and has been alpha male from the very beginning. I believe this will not work in my situation, as he bullied the other male fryeri to the point i had to seperate them. with the "white knight" being a new edition, i dont have much faith of a peaceful co-existence. Even tho he is no longer the largest in the tank ( fusco and d. comp. hold that ) he is still full color and acts alpha.

I guess i shall "settle" on an Albino Taiwan Reef, and call it good. If only i could find a male that isn't over 3".

Not 100% if its white knight (dark eyed) or Albino

Unless someone can recommend a fine looking white/albino cichlid from the hap family to use instead of a "White Knight" besides the Taiwan Reef?

For 49.99 it better be a white knight and not a regular albino lol. I wish I could find one locally. Maybe at Aquamania

I have been looking for "white knights" they are pretty darn white. The whitest I've seen. The biggest thing is they are luecistic instead of the typical albino so no red eyes and no yellow/ orange on the fins. They aren't easy to come by. A lot of places sell albino fryeri as knights but they are not.

There's a lot of debate on various forums that White Knights are hybrids. I once had some accidentally shipped to me, but they were poorly bagged and none survived. Fortunately, I was able to recoup my money. I have seen them on Aquabid and some of the mid-west forums, Chicago, Midwest, cannot remember which one exactly. Definitely not $50 for a 1" fish though...

I agree, I was refering to other haps that are all white. I prefer the white nights that still aquire the orange red tail and pectoral fins. If it doesn't have black eyes its not a white night. Some references say the white night is a line bred version that was created by mixing icebergs with abnormally large well....icebergs;) I don't know enough to get into the lineage.

Me niether really but there have been somewhat credible accounts of wild caught luecistic fryeri or "ahli" in the wild. There have also been stories of F1 and F2 spawns containing a luecistic fry. All very believable to me coming from collecting ball pythons with both full luecism and pied. I have seen these "white knight ahli's sell for as much as $200 for an alledged wild caught 4". The problem is, if the accounts are true and they do exist naturally and in the hobby, you have no way of knowing if you are getting a "real " one. It is known that other fryeri's have been line bred to get the same exact look so you don't know what you are really getting.

As far as the albinos with the orange/yellow fins. I have one and love it. As a matter of fact one of the best looking fish I ever seen is swimming aimlessly with a bunch of peacocks at Chris's house but he wouldn't sell it to me. I would have that bad boy in my show tank. If your reading this I still want him lol.

D. Comp is a normal male, just hasnt got much color yet.

My uncle has an Albino D. Comp. but hes no where near full grown yet.
