Ptychochromis oligacanthus finally spawned

Ok, let's try this again...I noticed the spawn yesterday and removed all of the other fish from that tank to let the parents focus on the eggs. They must have been there a few days because the parents are picking Wigglers off of the wood where they spawned today. Pics to follow soon...

This is a fish from which I've really had a hard time rising fry. They spawned a few times since I last posted and each time I lose the fry. The parents are horrible at taking care of them! So this last time that they spawned I just removed the rock with eggs and put them in a bin itch some circulation across the eggs from an air stone as well as some methylene blue. A zillion fry have hatched and I hope to raise at least a few.

Foods - good question. I found with the last batch that I pulled that they are not robust feeders and easily died when the tank got funky. So I've split the group in two and have them in two different tanks, I'll try different things on each. They are REALLY small, so I was really just going to start with a day or two of filter squeezings. After that, maybe a very light dosing of the smallest Golden Pearls. I have microworms ready to go as well. I've got vinegar eels but I find microworms easier to deal with and the size difference isn't really that much, IMO, but I could be wrong. I'm kind of regretting giving up on Frank's amoeba culture.

I also have a tub with lotus in it outside that's nice and green and funky so I could probably bring some of that water in as well and filter out anything large (I have a nice set of large-to-small sieves).

Any other suggestions?

I like the lotus tub water idea (lots of "infusoria")... Do you have a piece of water lettuce or something that you could drop in the tank as well?

I always seemed to lose babies after about a week or 10 days. A mass die off. Maybe some Repashy in the tank could help...

Good luck with these!

Straining the lotus tub water and using that sounds like a good idea.

If you have apple snails supposedly their slime trails provide infusoria. Golden pearls might be a good way to see if there is an easy answer to raising them.

HA! I already have an apple snail in with them! It's a staple in fry raising in my fishroom!

I think you're going to need more tanks soon ;) it's like the hormones are in the water in all your tanks haha.

Victor, you're relatively new here, so you don't know that Christine goes through periods when she seems to have 20 species that have not yet been described by scientists spawning simultaneously! It's very cool. Makes the auctions more interesting, too!

I just watched a fish room tour of all oddball where Eric shows a rack of 15 tanks on the same system to get the hormones around some of his cories to help induce breeding.

At one point he had the pryochochromis on a price list, not sure if this was before he went breeder only, you may want to ping him to see if he was raising fry or importing.
