Power outages

Yet another power outage here in the most powerful city in the most powerful country in the world. Didn't even blow very hard here.

Unbelievable.

Tree is down a block from my house and it took down the wires. PEPCO has come out and assessed it at least.

I've broken out my battery powered air pumps and lowered the water in all the tanks. Have to say that I find this very discouraging. I really don't want another multi day outage.

We didn't lose power here but part a tree came down in our backyard luckily it didn't it anything. My neighbor wasn't so lucky. A tree came down in his front yard and part of it hit his house. Picture is of his tree.

Came back on at midnight, so no real harm done. We did eat a lot of ice cream, though!

I may leave the water levels low until the weekend, just to see what the fish do.

Great to hear, Matt! We went for about 6 days during the Durecho.

Pepco is among the worst in America. For service and reliability (not profitability or executive compensation), that is...

I had about 5 1/2 days during the Derecho. But most of my fish survived and quite a few started spawning about two weeks later.

Pepco is terrible.

You all are freaking me out! Pepco just bought out my local utility company. They are slowly transitioning to Pepco reign. I have about a year and a half until the transition is complete. I plan to have a generator by then.

That was the best investment I ever made....but will try get a better generator when we move and own out own place.

Good luck hopefully you have a genny by then

Yun -- your fluval should have restarted with no trouble. I find the ACs often don't. Possibly an issue with the power strip to the fluval? I always have a house sitter for my dogs but also for the fish. You might hire someone just to swing by and check the tanks. Too many horror stories about things gone wrong when folks are awat.

No issue with the power strip. Definitely something with Fluval. Aren't Fluval and AC both made by Hagen? I am definitely thinking about having someone stop by to make sure everything is ok. I will be gone for 10 days don't want to come back to another tank full of dead fish which is exactly what happened to this tank two years ago when I came back from my vacation in the spring. I would have forgotten about the issue if I didn't lose power last week. I rarely even have power flickers.

Yun, with my ACs (30 and 50), I find that a good cleaning of the impeller, shaft, and housing usually fixes the restart problem.
