The Fossies are holding almost all the time and Protomelas occasionally. Stopped stripping fish though.

Tired of either getting $6 for a bag of juveniles at auction or people complaining that they don't want to pay $5 for a 4-month old growout fish.

The other two have not. They're sort of out-competed in the tank and probably would if I gave them their own space.

Craig, if you want some, I'll pull some for you. :)

count me in on that too Tony.. i wouldn't mind paying the price either.. or we can work out something.. still contemplating whether to grab green tiger juvies from dave or get lynn's stock.. have you on top of the list for juvies as dibs for the two i got from you.. (providing i can get them to hold)

I think Tony's point was that he's tired of basically giving away fish that would each retail for twice what entire bags go for in our auctions...

I don't sell all fish that size for $5 (Your bolded items in my quote made me smile, btw). Just making a point. Been in too many situations where dirt cheap is not cheap enough and I'm tired of it. Raising fish is a lot of work, requiring a lot of space and effort. When people constantly try to renegotiate, it just makes me not want to sell fish anymore.

Anyway, I'm sure that someone will quote me on this thread (and call me a greedy lying jerk) if I ever ask more than $5 for a fish, lol. That's how it goes, I guess...

Ah well.

(For the record, I am not talking about you Aldrich... we are totally good :) )

1. Most impressive male I ever saw might have been a C. caeruleus, although I would love to have a tank large enough to house a full-grown Buccochromis (any species!).
2. Most aggressive I've had is N. fusco-. Will always remember unceremoniously dropping one (about 2") into a tank, and it snagging something in its jaws within eight seconds. Shock of new water? Ha.
3. I was laughing on the phone last night about the absurdly low prices I passed on at the auction because I didn't have time to work on my tanks yesterday. (I totally failed the Boy Scout slogan, because I was not prepared for the auction!) As someone who hasn't been to a meeting for awhile, I can say that I'm not sure everyone actually appreciates what is available and the prices. (LOVED seeing some Victorians for sale.)

Glad you were able to make it, Steve.

Get more tanks set up in preparation for next meeting. Always good stuff at the auctions for sure. :character0053:

I hear that. I sold some white top hara fry a few months back. had them probably 4 months before I sold them (they are really slow growers). Think I was selling them for about $2 a piece and people were still trying to beat me up on price...or agree to a price then say all they had was cheap filters, etc in trade.

Hello Dan,

Where in MD are you located? What fish do you have for sale? At $2 a piece (for some fish) I can assure you I won't be beating you up on price.

...if only most bags of 6+ fish in our auctions went for $12 or more... we'd have more people bringing fish to sell... more rare and unusual stuff... and your club would earn more funds to serve our members!
