Official case of MTS

Well...are you all happy? I caught Multi Tank Syndrome! I have two running tanks, one 45g and one 36g. I have a 10g ready to hold spawn. And now I am taking a 70g of an old lady's hands. I did some measuring and I am placing it where my 45g is and will move my 45g to another stand and put the 10g at the entryway. I know I caught this from one of you:eek:. I think I am going to need help.

Ha! Told you so.

Just wait until you see the convention this weekend.

Your mind will be blown.

I think I am going to need help.

Can't be helped - only aided and abetted - you really should quit now and re-channel immediately. Barring that your primary concern is going to be ensuring you have the blessing and blind blissful support of your significant other, that and enough floor space/load-bearing capacity to indulge your inner dolphin.

HA! I have 3 small bowls/ponds just in my office (labyrinth fish), not to mention the 3 tanks in my leeeeeeetle tiny town house and 2 bowls mounted on my son's wall. My boss calls me "fish lady." Welcome to the club!

Your boss hasn't seen anything until you tour the fish rooms/houses of some of the CCA'ers. I feel like an amateur and I have 15 tanks and 700 gallons.

I thought I figured it out. I had 53 tanks. I got tired. I started tearing them down. I even gave a 90 away. I think I got down to 40.
Then the Cichlid gods heard about it. Suddenly I got bit again. I tried to hide but they found me. Now I am back up to 50 and am always looking for space.
Watch out. MTS has virtually no cure.

^^ True story!!!

I have friends and family who look at me like I have 3 heads when they find out I have 6 tanks and am always looking for good deals on more.

I have recently found myself going into family and friends houses and scoping out the place to see how many tanks I could fit in there if it were mine...

I think there is only one cure for MTS and that is walking away from the hobby and I don't think any of us will be doing that for a long time if ever...

A provisional maybe

Define "help". Specificity as to what constitutes "adult beverage" (grapes vs. hops vs. corn/rye/other) is optional but wouldn't hurt unless it's a cheap domestic imitation of that storied libation otherwise known as ale.

Ha ha, I didn't know the rules for posts with alcohol in them. I'm talking mixed drinks with Vodka and tequila and some random beers. I have a small selection.

And I need help transferring everything from my 45g to my new 70g. I measured out the space and it should be perfect. But I need to drain it, save the water for the 70, keep the fish alive in my other tanks, and set up everything for the 70. I think I am going to need some muscle and I am a 112lb gal.;) We could have a little party, and I'll play Tanked on the TV.

No need to save the water. It's just dirty. Just think of it as a big water change.

Get a couple if buckets, full half way and put in the fish. Put in an air stone if you are worried. Drain old tank and put the new one in place. Transfer decor and filters, remembering to keep your bio media wet. Fill and you are good to go.

The problem is I cant lift the tanks by myself. :( But I understand the process could be easy. I thought I should save the water since it is full of healthy bacteria and help avoid a giant cycle.

Most of the bacteria is in your filter and on the surfaces of things in the tank. Very little, if any, is in the water. Assuming you aren't instantly doubling the amount of fish in the tank, your filters from the old tank will suffice. No cycle whatsoever.

There are a few Montgomery County CCA members. I'm sure that they would be happy to help swap things around if needed after AquaMania.

Anytime after Aquamania is perfect. I can't wait for it!

Alexandra,

Definitely don't save the water. Jon's exactly right. And about waiting until after Aqumania.

This sounds like so much more fun than working from home. Wish I could help!

My husband just stopped me from buying a 72 bow front because we're out of outlets in the basement. Of course, he then came home with an eheim 2217, Aquaclear 70, and a bunch of cheesy decs and filter media he got for $60 on CL.
