I swear I posted this last Sunday, but can not find the post, so here you are.

CCA Board of Directors Meeting, 3 Mar 07

The CCA BOD meeting was held at the home of Pat and Tracey Kelly in Forest Hill, MD. After checking out Pat's fish, taking a few pictures, and enjoying lunch, the meeting started at 12:20 PM. The following members were in attendance:

Pat Kelly, President
Francine Bethea, Vice President
John Kim, Treasurer
Tracey Kelly, Secretary
Mike Hill, Corresponding Secretary
Bobby Phillips, member
George Richter, member
Cristy Keister, Chairperson

Treasury Report: Starting balance for 2007: $3,389.78 combined (petty cash + in the bank). Current balance: $1,556.77 petty cash + $1,769.95 in the bank = $3,326.72. That is after paying the airfare for the three fly-in speakers. Approved 5-0.

Benefits of Pay Pal: Pat proposed a Pay Pal account for members to pay dues online. John will look into it.

The Biotope: Planning to publish next issue in April. Use Tim Nurse's article so it's in there when he comes to speak in June. Have several articles (Bob Bock, Andrew, Mike Hill, and Mike Moore. As usual, Pat begged for articles for upcoming issues.

Advertising in The Biotope: Pat proposed putting the rates in the Biotope so that everyone can see them. It was decided to start with a 1/2-page ad for $50.00 per issue, and a 1/4-page ad for $25.00 per issue. If you buy a full year at one time, you get 4 months for the price of 3. Approved 5-0.

Christy proposed that we archive the past Biotope issues on the website. Members would have access, but others would only be able to see the covers. It was also proposed that we make one or two old copies available to the public so that they can see the quality. Christy will look into to see how hard it would be to do this.

Forum Concerns: The "lockdown" has been a great improvement. If members still don't have access, they need to register and send an E-mail to Pat Kelly. We need members to be more active on the forum. The more we post, the more others will also. It feeds on itself.

It was proposed that we ad a chat feature to the forum. This was discussed at length and was defeated 4 to 1.

Website: Update directions to Layhill from the north. Verify that all other directions are accurate, too.
Make sure "Inc." is included after all mentions of "Capital Cichlid Association". Include "The CCA meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at Layhill, except for July, August & December." This needs to go on the front page. We need to keep it up-to-date and remove the stores and individuals that no longer donate to us. Members need to print out the monthly flyer and take them to stores. We used to do this, but it seems like no one is anymore.

CCA Posters/Signs for Fish Stores: Large enough to see but not too big that stores will not want to hang them up; considering an 11"X17" poster that is water-resistant. Will include general information only (who/when/where/typical meeting agenda - speaker/talk/workshop, raffle, mini auction). Bobby Phillips offered to check with his daughter about doing this since she is a graphic designer. He will let the board know the cost.

CCA Flyers for Fish Stores: General information only. Pat proposed updating the small 3-fold flyer that we have to something that is more professional looking. These would go in little plastic holders for store counters. Francine and Christy will each make up a design and present it. Approved 5-0

CCA Business Cards: Not for individual CCA members; general CCA information only Pat proposed having a professional looking business card made for the general membership to hand out if they happen to run into a person who is interested. These should have the club name and website on them. This was Approved 5-0. Bobby Phillips again will check into this and get back to the Board.

CCA Liaison for Fish Stores: Someone to visit local stores to obtain sponsorship, donations, advertisement (in store/in The Biotope), etc. This was sidelined until the signs and flyers are made.

Joining FAAS: Benefit of joining were discussed. It was Approved 5-0. Francine is to get us signed up.

Pat proposed buying more bumper stickers. Getting low. This was discussed and defeated 4-1

ACA 2007: CCA donation to the Paul Loiselle Conservation Fund. Max $200.00 based on the year-end club balance. Donation to be given at the ACA convention by member.
This was Approved 5-0
CCA to sponsor the "Tanganyikan Featherfins" class in the fish show if it is still avail. Pat to send email on this. Approved 5-0

Ways & Means: Pat is getting ready to send out "begging letters" to the big manufacturers/suppliers soon.

Fall Fish Festival (19-21 Oct 07) sponsored by CCA & PVAS: The proposal is for CCA to handle all registration, one speaker, and the fish show. CCA expenses would be one speaker and any incidentals, and should be entirely recoupable. This proposal was voted on and Approved 5-0. As a result, there will be no CCA meeting in Oct. Use the money and time we would put into the meeting for the FFF.

CCA 2007 Holiday Party: Francine agreed to host it at her home again this year. She is centrally located for most CCA members.

Raising Money for CCA through Products: A calendar? Bobby Phillips proposed making a CCA calendar to be sold so that we could raise some money. Bobby will check into this.

CCA Meeting Location (Layhill) Status: Nothing new.

Membership report. We ended 2006 with 61 members. As of meeting time, 27 members have not renewed. We need to find out why. With renewals and new members, we sit at 42 members at this time. With the list of speakers we have, that should jump over the next few months.

The meeting ended at 3:30 pm.
