Comparison of Lin to Tebow?
A guy who is averaging 27 pts and 9 assists as a starter and is a major cog to his team, as compared to a guy who had awful stats for 3 quarters and if not for a defense keeping him in games he would have not been known for anything other than winning at UF?

Piazza?
Ruth, you know how to get to my heart.
Piazza wasn't drafted until almost the end of the 62nd round in the '88 draft. Piazza did end up becoming the greatest hitting catcher in the last 50 years, and was a phenom during his first year...Lin has a ling way to go.

Love his back story! Harvard grad! It just shows you CAN go to an ivy league school and still make it in the bigs. Plus, he was cut by two teams already!!! (this season?)
Go Jeremy! The Tebow of basketball. :D

Nope cause he is actually good at his game.

There have been plenty of undrafted guys who made an impact in professional sports. Loved Piazza when he came onto the scene. The thread had been solely about basketball players since then, so it wasn't surprising that Piazza hadn't come up. He's Lasorda's godson or nephew and was drafted in the last round as a courtesy. I'd say it worked out pretty well for the dodgers. If we're going to extend the thread to other sports get ready for me to post a whole bunch of clips of Victor Cruuuuuuuuz!

Tomorrows games gonna be a good one.

I think the Knicks were caught looking ahead on Friday evening. They played an undermanned awful New Orleans team and never could win in a game of catch-up.
Kidd vs Lin
It's going to be a loud and hostile crowd at The Garden on Sunday.

He's going to have to over come Shawn Marion's defense if he's going to live up to the hype. I Don't see that happening. Gonna be a lot of turnovers for ny this afternoon.

Well Lin had a lot of turnovers(7), but 28 pts and 14 assists with 5 steals is a good performance.

46 mins for Lin.
His first 21 were without a TO.
More TO's by the Mavs...:p
Yet another double-double by Lin...28 pts and a career high 14 assists.

It was ironic to see Yi and Lin's teams facing off. Yi made a huge headline and draft controversies while Lin went undrafted. Lin leads his team to victory today and Yi didn't even get to play.

Yeah. Lin is pretty good. The mavs played pretty bad too.
Yi could be pretty interesting one day but he hasnt put it together yet.m

Yi is awful as an NBA player. He doesn't seem that he should be that way - 7 feet tall, good athleticism and not a bad shooter.

However he has had enough chances in enough different situations to prove he can be a productive NBA player and at this point it is pretty safe to say he isn't one. The problem is he is a poor rebounder, bad defender and an inefficient scorer(even if his raw numbers sometimes seem hopeful).

If you put him in some searches on basketball-reference using advanced stats, you get back defensive specialists(which he is not) and scrubs.

Lin was phenomenal in that game. The stats tell a lot of the story, but not all of it. His game evolved during that game. He played safe, turnover free ball the first half of the game. He then had a string of turnovers in the third when Dallas turned up the defense and the knicks were trying to figure out how to beat it. Once they got the right combination on the floor with a small lineup and shooters ready to receive kickouts, the turnovers stopped. Lin gets a little out of control in the lane sometimes, but he learns and changes his approach during the game. Dallas is one of the best teams (and best defensive team) in the league and Lin played nearly the entire game. He has a turnover issue, but 7 TOs in that many minutes against that team is not a problem. The rest of the league is also adjusting. Dallas used one of their best man defenders, Shawn Marion, a long 6'7" player, on him as well as doubling and trapping him at the three point line. Lin was able to succeed in many instances under that pressure. He's not perfect, but he's the best the knicks have by a long shot. They can win (and have won) with him. Might be different if Novak and JR Smith weren't knocking down shots, but the knicks can play with the reigning champs. They should only get better with Carmelo tonight. The Garden was rocking like it hasn't for nearly a decade. That energy is fantastic. My kids watched the game with me and were standing and cheering. I never would have subjected them to watching a knicks game before this.

I think it is good for the NBA to have excitement in NY. Before this season most were thinking it would be in Brooklyn next season.

Not to sidetrack too much, but if only the Wizards could get some excitement(i.e. winning) going in DC, that would be even better.

Lin's TO problem could be an issue, but I am sure the knicks and all their fans would much rather win with Lin turning the ball over 6 or 7 times than losing with Lin not turning the ball over.
