Krib Spawn

I have MAJOR problemo. My female got into a spat with my male who now has split fins, and is nowhere near the urn where the little fry swim around with the mom. I have a small school of neons with my guppies in the tank, also. Although, every time the male goes and tries to help the mom, she gets him in his tailfin. He constantly is chasing my norms away from the urn, I guess thatthat's a good thing. I am scared because my largest snail is starting to eat the babies, and the mom doesn't see him as a threat! What do I do?

How old do the fry have to be to move them to a tank with a whisper 10 filter? It's gallons after cycling, going to give it 3-5 weeks to cycle.

If the tanks cycled you could move them now. How any are there? How big are they? Are you feeding them yet?

Zack - how are you "cycling" the tank? If you are trying to build a bacteria colony from scratch, it isn't as dependent on time as it is the nitrogen cycle. You should be testing the water daily to see if the ammonia in the tank has started to turn to nitrite, then nitrate. Just running a filter on an empty tank won't cycle anything.

The easiest thing to do is like Lucas suggested. Take a filter from an established tank and you have an instantly cycled tank.

I have a trio of clown platys in the 5 gallon to cycle it.

Laswt night, the mother Krib ate her little batch but the dad saved about 20. I took all but 7-8 out last night and put them in a temporary breeder until my fry tank is cycled.

Go pick up a sponge filter from Rick's. I'll trade you a fully cycled sponge for a new one so your tank is instantly cycled. I live off Route 80 in Urbana, so not too far from your place.

The tank was stocked with 3 platys on Wednesday, when do you think I can put the fry in it? Also, the fry are eating like crazy! I am so happy about that! They are fed 3-4 times a day frozen BBS, Hikari First Bites, Aqueon Crushed Flake food (When my guppies do not eat the rest, they LOVE it), and Crushed very finely Spirulina Flake. The fry are around 1/8" long. I now have 13-25 with 7 left in the tank. So that is 20-32 fry altogether.

Tey are too small I am pretty sure. I have 3 of those. They are in a net breeder with a stem of Hornwort and a small clump of Java moss.
