Fracine, that's who I got the 5 points for a new species idea from. Yes they included catfish. Most of the clubs have included them... including Ohio. We would be "not the norm" if we didn't include catfish from the little research I did searching around other clubs wesites.

Well....I don't care about the catfish as long as there is a vote. What road will it lead us down I wonder?

I don't think it will do any good to make a list of the endangered species as it changes constantly. If someone turns in a sheet... I think I'll just ask them to put endangered on the sheet some where. Then I'll look it up on the current red list to check it.

Sound like a good plan?

That's a nice site. I like the fact that they also show a chart of individual BAP scores as well.
(as well as CATFISH! HA)

Congrats on the posts Sarah! I like the idea of having the CCA checker verify what's on the red list when giving out points, but it should be up to the submitting member to note whether they believe the fish is endangered.

Agree on that one Donna. I'm not going to check every single form agasint the red list. If you've bred the fish I would hope you would know it's endangered :lol: . If so, put "endangered" some where on the top of the sheet. I'm just going to make sure it is :)

Does anyone have any problems with the new rules Bobby posted a couple pages back? I'm going to ask him to include 5 points for any new species bred for BAP. If not... I think it's a "go". If catfish are voted for at the meeting... we will add that to the rules.

I'll work on the list and hopefully have it done by the meeting this Saturday.... of course I will post it for further tweaking.

So this is how it goes to get points for fry:
1) We get forms from you at the CCA meeting on Saturday.
2) Take pictures of, or have a CCA member see, fry when they are young.
3) Have a fellow CCA member see the fry at 60 days, or bring them to a CCA meeting. The form is completed at this second verification of successful spawn. (Note: pictures are not sufficient at the 60 day 'sighting'.
4) Points are awarded according to a predetermined scale based on difficulty of breeding that fish.
5) Additional points are earned for
a.) endangered species on the red list. (but only if the submitting member applies for them on the form)
b.) the first successful spawn of a 'new to the club' fish
c.) submitting an article to the CCA Biotope on the spawning
d.) Putting the fry in the auction at CCA meeting (at age 60 days or older)
6) Records and pictures of parent fish and successful spawns are kept somewhere by CCA.

Now to find the 'Official CCA Rules" on some previous page...that I haven't seen yet. Then the points scale in step 4 will become clear.

This club gets more interesting every month!

Thanks. The 3-layers of the point scale are there to study. It might be useful to newbies who want to raise cichlids. First, they would select only fish from category A. Then email a CCA friend when the fry appear. (Why can't they post the 'birth announcements' on the forum?) Next they get breeders forms from Pat. Sixty days later they receive the first of many BAP points. Finally, another confession at the CCA group meeting 'I am a cichlid-oholic for life'.
