I'm a quick hit and run this afternoon...it is really awesome! You should be in the clear from this point forward, but as first time parents there is a chance they might eat them :-(

Way to go DQ! My JD's still need a marriage counselor,I can't have them together more than 10 minutes before one starts trying too take the other out.

Update? Are they free swimming?

I have to break down my breeding tank this morning - two fry left behind I have to get out before the next spawn and I'm thinking they'll be doing that this afternoon.

oh yes they even had a school field trip to the far side of the tank. no casualties just lots of babies driving these two parents crazy. seems there are a couple that refuse to stay with the group. im thinking they will learn the hard way.:D when do you seperate from the parents about 2 weeks stacy?

I normally wait three or four weeks - mainly because I like watching them as a family unit. Parents won't eat them and taking then early doesn't seem to make a dif on how fast they spawn again. My gal sulked for 3 weeks the first time i took the fry at 3 weeks.

I love the little ones that wander away - it's fun to watch the parents go catch them :)

Yeah - I want pics, too!

btw - I didn't realize you had them back in the community tank - I'd pull them at two weeks or as soon as you see them eating crushed flake food unless all the other tankmates are peaceful non-fry eating fish - and I doubt that.

yes madam in law lol! :D ok understood and tanks. i had them in the honeymoon suite but they acted like they were too good for that. al they did was hide for a month everytime i came downstairs or walked towards the tank. so i moved them back upstairs after the month trial period and bam! they were looking like this --->.
i saw the babys swarming some pellets yesterday. now that was cool like hundred babies nipping at this 1 pellet:p.

What I did to force mine to be more social was to take away the hiding spots. I know that goes against most advice for keeping Dempsey's - but it worked for me. I unblocked them two months later and they did fine.

If you don't have flake on hand - get some! The babies will do well on it, you just have to crush it fairly fine. Wait until they are about 1/2" and they all swarm to the top to feed - the noise is amazing - I've said it before, but it sounds like the sound track of pirahna.
