Aren't shrimp sensitive to rapid changes in other water parameters, though?
You're sure they're carcasses and not molts, right?

If any fertilizers were used in the tank, that might be the issue. Many contain copper and shrimp are sensitive to that, although some types (Flourish tabs, for example) contain such a small amount that they are supposedly not harmful to shrimp..

Give the tank a few weeks to cycle. After all it is a new set up..the only way you will know if you have proper light for your hc you need a par meter

They're definitely dead shrimp. Not sure on the fertilizers, but doubt they would have added anything at the show. Also drained the tank 100% for transport.

10-4. The dirty sponge filter should help it get going.

Kris and Josh were using a PAR meter at the show... I'll see if they remember what the readings were. Any idea what ideal PAR is for HC?
