This morning I started playing around with the placement of the wood in the water and I think Im happy with this. Ill be attaching the aquatic plants to the driftwood and working on the substrate today as well.
You should put as many plants as possible around the 5 gallon buckets. As nice as the setup is, the buckets still look like upside down buckets. Also would have removed the steel handles which could rust after a while under the water.
That substrate mix is awesome though. Looking forward to the progress and seeing the inhabitants!
To hide the buckets I have creating a background on acrylic sheets that will hile the buckets. The handles will rust and provide iron for the plants.
+1need moar pics!
Dumb question -- what, if anything, will live in the dry area?
Are you going to rough up the ends of the inverted driftwood pieces to lose the two sharp cut ends or are you hoping the ends will blend into the plant growth? Might plant some pothos on either end and tie it onto the driftwood ends where it can vine down to float on part of your water surface while covering those sharp ends. Awesome tank.
This is developing nicely! More pics of your progress would be great
