How long do you quarantine?

I'm horrible then, I do a week...

I do a week unless I see issues pop up within that week, at which point I extend it.

During that week I feed a metronidazole garlic flake and, depending on the fish and its condition, add some salt to the quarantine tank. I may also use Melafix or Pimafix if I think it's warranted. I've also dropped in some ParaGuard in the past.

There are a few varieties of fish I don't quarantine because of their general fragility/ issues with moving them, or because they need a mature environment that my bare quarantine tank can't provide.

More often than not, my quarantine tanks turn into the permanent home for that group of fish.

 That's what happened to my small quarantine! The 20 long has become the permanent home of my D. macs and two groups of tetras I had to have but have no clue what to do with!

I don't think they are going to enjoy a 10g tank for very long. If someone happens to have a 30b or 40b (with all the accoutrements) they are willing to part with at a modest price, they may never make it into the other tank (not sure the wife would be too happy about it, but me and the fish probably will be)
