I got a group of Geophagus iporangensis from our box exchange a while back. They've been hanging out in a big tank of mixed fish for a while. A few months ago I noticed that I was down to two but that they were hanging out together.
So I moved them into a calmer tank to see if they'd still hang out together and they did. As they colored up it became pretty likely that it was a pair.
This past weekend I noticed that they'd darkened a bit with some odd light colored markings on them. They moved sand from one side of the tank to the other, then back again. I watched and waited for the eggs but never saw any. Last night they were guarding a nice group of fry! I still have no idea where the eggs were. I've left about half with the parents and siphoned off about half and put them in a hang-on breeder box on the parent's tank. Hopefully all will go well!
