What I mean by scam is that it's not actually free. The posting states the item is free but the seller has no intention of giving it away for free.

this one was legit, but yes there are a lot of scams on craigslist. lots of time they post popular items for free on CL I think to just get responses and a email addresses that they use later and/or sell them

Craig's List has cracked down on that. If you ever list anything for sale on there, you'll find that the people who respond no longer "reveal" their e-mail addresses. Instead, when you e-mail CraigsAd394302@cragislist.org to ask if the big fish tank is still available, the seller gets an e-mail from RandomStuff@craigslist.org, with your real address hidden.
