CW052 Aspidoras sp. Black Fin

Another catfish spawn... I think they like the high temps in the basement and erratic barometer.

This is another very easy fish to breed. If you happen to pick up a bag of these at an auction (there's a lot of CCA members keeping/breeding them) you won't have to do much but keep them in a small tank by themselves and feed to get them to breed.

It's a super-cute Corydoradine catfish with a black and white checkboard pattern. I'm hoping these go into the mainstream as it's a great fish for community tank.

I have 8 in a ten-gallon tank. Their first tank they shared with guppy grow outs and only one fry survived. Now they're on their own and I think they'll do great. They are laying eggs in a gap between a rock and the tank glass and also on the uplift tube. I have no idea how many females participated but there were at least 20 eggs as of this morning. (Terrible) Picture is of about 10 eggs on a sponge filter uplift tube.

Planning to eventually add some of these lil' cuties to the 29, and maybe a few in the 15 I'm picking up on Saturday. They're cool little fish.

Congratulations!

Glad you like them, Andrew.

They lay where the flow is. Mine have been crapping out recently, and I haven't got it figured out. Five batches of eggs have all fungused. I haven't changed my procedure, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Update... The first few batches of eggs hatched but were (I'm guessing) eaten by the parents in the wriggler phase. They starting laying bunches of eggs inside the uplift tube of their sponge filter. I removed the uplift tube to a breeder net and now have about 25 free swimmers. Of course, now they lay their eggs on the breeder net where it's muhc more difficult to move them to safety...

Congrats, I've always been tempted to try a group but am pretty confident that I have the wrong water conditions. :(

These guys don't care... I haven't tested my water for hardness but I have white mineral deposits around older tanks.

Oh that might be promising. I know my well water is hard and has a high ph out of the tap. If I don't wipe drips off the glass from WCs they'll leave white streaks the next day!!! Those do not come off easy either!

The spawn I just got this week happened in conjunction with the ongoing rain in a tank running at around 70-72... Don't think the temperature is a big deal for them, but the rain might be!

Shawn,

Personelly, I think the CW052s prefer to lay where there is consistent water movement more than any other parameter. Presently, mine lay on the koralia.
Also, my heater on that particular tank is on the fritz, so the temp is 69 on a good day.

That's funny, mine laid on the low-flow end of the tank, about as far from the filter as they could get.
