Blue Jds Spawned

My pair of Blue JDs spawned. It wasn't planned and I don't expect any fry to survive since both
parents are blues. But all the eggs I see have eyed up - so who knows! :p

You should see the tank they're in though - its pathetic. A half filled 55G that I haven't changed the water in
for over 2 months. Floating plants, dirty glass. Hell I barely even feed these guys - maybe 3 times a week
if they're lucky.

Francine - don't worry about the check just yet. From what I've read
if both parents are Blue - the fry don't make it past the wriggler stage.
I'll holler out if I need a checker.

Thanks!

there should be no problem getting them to grow out, just that they should all be regular Jacks and not blue, nor will they breed blue, but should grow fine

Where'd you get that information? I havent read that anywhere....

What I've been reading says

blue x blue = weak spawn & fry die
blue x regular = fry w/ blue gene (fbg)
fbg x regular = 25% blue + 75% regular

..and me thinks...

fbg x blue = 75% blue + 25% regular

I have been importing the fish for sometime.

The female needs to carry the Blue gene in order to get the 25% rate, she needs to be a regular Jack with Blue gene, bred to a blue male.

Best blue rate in any hatch I have ever heard of was 25-35 % blue, otherwise more people would be breeding the fish, as it stands if you get 100 fish, 75 are throw outs for most breeders, so nobody breeds them.

I'm not questioning what you're saying - but trying to find the source
of your information.

The fry were still alive as of last night...however I'm almost hoping they
won't make it - I'm moving next week and dont want to start BBS!
