Got six of these from our president Jon Clarke, have had them in a community 75 with some Geo. Steindachneri. They paired off and turned very dark, seems they have laid eggs on a rock at one end of the tank and are defending the eggs vigorously. My first spawn of this species, I imagine I should have wigglers in a few days then I will pull some fry and try to raise them in a net breeder with air stone and start feeding them golden pearls. I know others in the group have bred this species, any experiences would be much appreciated.

Congrats on the spawn, Pete. I like centrarchus but since I have two males, I have no experience in spawning them.

Well done, Pete. They are pretty typical for Central American cichlids when spawning. One interesting thing that my pair did was that they would hang the wigglers and fry in plants versus a pit in the sand.

My pair also spawned in a community tank, so I removed the wigglers to their own tank to raise.

Pretty much what Jon said - they're generally good parents. Keep an eye on the male, especially after a couple of weeks of caring for the fry he might be itching to spawn again (and the female not so much)...

Got a second batch of fry, (lost the first to the others in the tank) have two breeder nets with approx. 25 in each. Feeding them golden pearls and live baby brine shrimp. Hoping to raise some of these to maturity this time
