My breeding group came from Germany, $50 apiece for ~1.5" juvies. The first spawn were all super red fry, but I'm not certain yet whether the female in this round was a red or a brown. Since the new spawn is small I think it's fairly likely they're pure reds again. I have 7 of the super reds and 2 older brown females sharing the same tank. The larger brown females produce more eggs when they spawn, usually at least twice as many as this group. The brown trio were breeding very well, and producing a good number of albino fry until I moved the male out. I have a couple hundered brown and albino fry to move along now, and don't have tankspace for any more of them. Some may become feeders for the large pair of oblongum.
Only 1f/2m of the reds are mature, and some of the younger reds don't look quite as good as the breeders. I'm thinking too much inbreeding has caused some shorter noses and off-center mouths. I'm hoping outcrossing them with some different stock then crossing back will improve their looks overall. The larger, currently mature/breeding reds look normal, not like they've been chasing parked cars. Apparently they were from a different spawn than the smaller ones.
