3m Colorquartz being phased out

It seems like more people are getting T grade than S grade - I am curious why? From what I've read (and experienced), the S grade is spherical and smooth, which I would have thought is perfect for those cichlids that like to chew/spit/sift sand. I guess I assumed that the T grade, which is fractured, would have sharp edges that might damage gills and soft tissues. Am I misinformed? Note that I've used S grade, but never touched T grade.

I have cories, so wanted the S grade. Was wondering why so many wanted the T grade. It does sound like you can have a more sloped substrate with T grade.

I like it because while it does get moved around by my fish its not too bad and it holds a good slope. Also the fact that its a little bit heavier makes it easier for me to not suck it up when doing a water change. My fish sift through it all the time and no problems here.

UNCLERUCKUS

"THE ALL POWERFUL Q !!
I USE BOTH BUT I FIND THAT THEY BOTH DO WELL FOR SLOPES AND ALL THE FISH LOVE TO DIG IN IT. FROM THE OSCARS DOWN TO THE COREYS. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS T GRADE IS THE SIZE OF NEWSPAPER PRINT IN A REGULAR ARTICLE. ITS BIGGER AND HEAVIER. I WAS TRULY HURT BY THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT IT WAS BEING D/C.

2,650 lbs.

Updated to reflect an increase in Judi's order, and I'm gonna split my black bags, and get half T grade and half S grade.

OK well my truck apparently can not handle all of that sand in one load. Anyone up to help? I will see if I can get delivery on the pallet and how much that would be?

I would think that they would work a deal since we want so much. I will call them tomorrow!

How do we want to do distribution? I guess some will pick up at my house and some will want me to bring to the October meeting. Any other suggestions?

2,750 lbs.

I'll take two bags of s grade in smoke.

I can help with distribution to the I-95ers and GWAPA folks, and can get access to a minivan that should be able to handle up to 20 bags (1,000 pounds) or so.

That will depend somewhat on when we take delivery - I will be out of town from Thursday, September 17th through Tuesday, September 22md.

Lets try to pick a day where as many people can meet to pick up their sand at the location. And whatever is left we can split between whatever vehicles we have available. I can definitely carry 1000lbs but thats about it! I may be able to do 1500 under short distance. I am going to see if I can get access to a truck that can carry at least double what I can. Thats what I get for owning a sports truck.

We can try to make pickup of the sand on the same day as our next meet (October)? Then we will have people in the area anyways and everyone can get their sand on the day we pick it up at the meet.

OK cool. I am exploring a couple options as well. If I get a hitch on my truck I can haul up to 3500lbs in a trailer I can probably use. I think I do like pickup being on the same day as the meet tho. It will help make sure that I am not sitting on a pallet of sand in my garage for all eternity. lol

Dam, they are not open on Saturdays. Only weekdays during regular 9-5 business hours. And delivery cost is outrageous. Ouch, This is getting hard. They might be able to set up special pickup hours for me in the evening. But that makes it hard to coordinate with anyone else to come and meet me there to help me pick it up.

Not to highjack but...

I am about to pick some up for myself from a pool guy in Rockville, who says he can get any color, grade, etc, with pallet pricing, and within a few days.

I live in Vienna, so I could make the Rockville to Vienna run, and pick some up along the way. I could carry a few thousand pounds if needed...

Not trying to steal anyone's thunder, just trying to extend the offer to anyone who may want it...

Well, I am having trouble trying to figure the Logistics out for picking this order up from RAM in B-More!

On a side note. I found a guy closer to my house and he has:

40 bags of T grade Black $23.24 per bag
100 bags of S grade smoke $17.98
100 bags of S grade blue $27.21
20 bags of S grade buff $17.98
several bags of white s grade $17.98

They do not have S grade black. There is no red either! Some of these prices are better!

I probably will not be able to swing the RAM order in Baltimore. Its getting more and more complicated logistically as time passes. This other place by me is close and I can pick up and store whatever I need to in my garage. Because if it takes me two trips that is ok because they are close to my house.

If bruckerben is willing to take over thats fine. But, no offense its going to be hard putting trust in that much money to a non member new to the site. The size of the order is over $1000 and that is a lot of responsibility!

I'm happy to keep my order with you, and pick it from your garage at your convenience.

No offense taken, I didn't even think about that!

Honestly, I figured the other way around, I would pick it up, and people could pay when they came.

But now that I think about it, I could be the NOOB to the forum getting stuck with a garage full!

McFluff, is your source closer to Vienna than Rockville??

If so, I will just grab a buch for myself, and be done with it!!

Thank you all, great forum, BTW...
