Hi guys,
I recently received a 2.5 gal nano as a gift. It came with some fake plants and pink/blue gravel, which I'd like to replace. My eventual goal is to have another planted breeder and or super small community tank. I'm about 2 1/2 weeks into letting the bioload form, and want to get...
Do featherfins need sand to spawn or will they manage with a medium sized gravel?
They're in a 4' 150g T with gravel, which I JUST changed from sand after my tank crashed. I'd like to keep them in that tank and I just really hate to have to get the gravel out and put sand BACK into the 150...
Im setting up a south American tank with angels, laser cories....the tank has gravel in it already, is that ok for cories or would it be better to use pool filter sand?

I went in town to get pfs for my new tank. Lowe's doesn't have it. No surprise. First pool supply store only had brown, and it clumped big time. Next pool place had no sand, but did have something called Glass Media. They wouldn't let me open the bag to 'give it the rub'. So I came home empty...

I can't find any info online regarding the actual content of carib sea cichlid sand, specifically the sahara mix. What specific water chemistry does it create/maintain?
I'm thinking about getting some featherfins that have been bred/raised in a tank with that substrate. I simply use coral to...

So I have the Craigslist 180 reef-ready brought in, cleaned up, painted black, stand cleaned up, power fixed up, wet/dry sump built. Basically all ready to go.
To the point that the grow-out tank fish that will be added are huddling in the fish room talking over survival strategies, while...
I'm looking for a dark gray substrate. Soilmaster Select charcoal was prefect but they don't make it anymore. I tried it's replacement Turface Pro League but the color washed off when cleaning it. 3M's Gray is too blue and not dark enough. 3M's Smoke turns to a light gray underwater. I found...
I have rock and driftwood in a 125g right now. I have drift lake and Tangs. Tap Ph in Maryland is much lower than it is in Texas. I never had to worry about PH or Hardness before. I have been using the Tang PH buffer from seachem but, similarly to the problem I had in texas the with PH down...

--substrate, pretty bad :!: . Does anyone here have any Seachem black sand?
--Light fixture, 48", 4 bulb minimum
Any tips, let me know!
I'm not great with planted tanks, but I like keeping plants in with my discus. I've always had trouble keeping the plants rooted in my substrate. I know its not very thick, so I'm trying to find out the ideal depth to build it up to. Also, how do you actively manage keeping such a deep bed...
I'm about to set up a small Tanganyikan tank for shellies and maybe some goby cichlids. I'd like to use sand so that I can see them in a more natural habitat than the crushed coral I have in my main Tang tank. However, I tried black sand in one of my first tanks a long time ago and gave up in...
