pelmatochromis buettikoferi spawn!

I picked up a few of these lovely fish at a CCY auction a few months ago and have had them in a 40B with a few other fish and a ton of wood while I figured out where to put them. Last week, two of them started defending the back of the tank and excavating the sand from it. I've been slowly removing the other fish in the tank in hopes that they might spawn and cut down on the general stress of the tank.....well, last night I saw free swimmers!

Pics so far are horrible but I'll get some posted ASAP!

Here are a few pics of the fry, each parent, and the tank setup. Other fish except the plecos have been removed at this point.

Very nice - they're good parents too (much better than P. nigrofaciatus in my experience).

Hard to capture the golds and greens in the photos - really striking fish :)

two more pics...the first is just so you can see how the tank is set up, the second is a pic of the fry this week. I'm feeding them generously with golden pearls once a day, but they always seem to have full little bellies, so I think (I hope) they're feeding off of a lot of the microfauna on the driftwood and mattenfilters during the day while I'm at work.

Agreed, they are much prettier in person. The male has amazingly turquoise blue eyes that just don't show up in the pictures....the female's eyes are bright red.

No offense meant to all of my other favorite fish, but right now, I'm totally geeked out by these.
