Hihi, I was just wondering if Larry or any of the others of you had any info on why the name change for the brasiliensis. I have a large male, and just got spawning pair from Tim at the pvas auction. They were previously Geophagus, but as Larry said at the meeting they are now apparently classified as Satanoperca. Does anyone know what the reason behind the name change is? Do they exhibit some mouthbrooding tendencies?

thanks for any info

Actually, brasiliensis may still be Geophagus. I've been looking around the net and see lots of references to Satanoperca for the larger species (like Jurapari) with the smaller species still kept in Geophagus. Taxonomy is like Chicago weather. It you don't like it, wait a bit and it will change.
