Cyps - male, female behavior

I have 3 male and 6 female Cyprochromis leptosoma between about 1.5"-2.5". I was just wondering about their behavior.

The 3 males are always out in the open showing off and chasing each other around. In the meantime (almost all day) the females constantly get "herded" to one small area where they hang out low and behind rocks.

Aren't they all supposed to be swimming around the whole tank most of the time? Aren't the males supposed to be showing off for the females instead and actually want them around?
