Cichlid grow out fry tank

Now I have a grow out 15 gallon tank fully loaded with heater, light, sponge filter, but no substrate !! I've had 4 pregnancy already all successful but now i chose to buy a tank and start putting the females in the tank and let them grow out there.

My question is I noticed fry don't eat the food as mch so it goes to the bottom and sits there I guess so should I put a substrate in the tank or leave it bare ao it's easier to clean the tank ???

I leave all my fry tanks with bare bottoms so that it is easy to get all the gunk out during water changes.

Did you use a seeded filter or it the filter brand new? If you didn't use an established filter, you may be having a bacterial bloom.

The water doesn't help a ton in terms of transporting bacteria. Using tank water isn't a bad idea to reduce the acclimation, but you at least need to get some lilter gunk to get the bacteria from an established filter.

if you are worried about fry going into the filter you can use a piece of filter foam or floss or even nylons to cover the intake
