wtb red wigglers

Hey guys. I'm trying to start a compost bin and if anyone has some extra wigglers they could sell me (to avoid the whole shipping process/fees) that would be great. I read they double every 90 days so I'm not sure exactly how many I would need to start. I guess part of it depends on the usage of the compost bin.... either way I am interested in buying some so if you have extra and want to make a couple bucks or are feeling generous and would like to donate I would love to take some off your hands :)

I managed to kill mine over the winter, but I know that Matt and Christine have (or at least had) thriving colonies.

How many we're you thinking of getting? If you want to do a true vermicompost setup, the recommendation is to start with 1 to 2 lbs of worms....which translates into 1000 to 2000 worms. If that's the case, you should order them. I'd be glad to give you information about who I bought from.

If you really only want a few dozen or so, I'm sure I can provide that many.

Once they're established and happy, they do reproduce quickly, but they don't like change, so they can take up to a few months to settle in and start multiplying.

I was just thinking that more people in the group were doing this and if I got a hundred or so from several different people it would be sufficient as well as provide my fellow members with a few extra dollars ;)

Did you get them from jims worm farm or some where else? Thanks for your responses

That might work, too!

I think I did get them from Jim's. It was kinda awesome reaching into a bag of 2000 live worms when the arrived.....

I can bring you a container of some (however many I can catch) at the meeting if you like.

I have a worm bin running. You can come by my place and pick some up. If you want to do the "rubbermaid bin" method. Bring a couple over and I can get you started.

One persons episode of fear factor is another persons idea of fun! ;) haha

That would be cool. Thanks christine :)
