got a pair during the PVAS auction.. put them both in just one tank, but the male has started to chase the female.. would like to get some more females so the aggression toward one will be minimized at the very least, or be lost.. would hopefully like to get them to breed.. saw these listed as a C.A.R.E.S cichlid.. anyone know what that means as well?

any info would be great..thanks!

To be clear this is a separate species from the Pundamilia igneopinnis(Orange and Black).

I would start here:

What size tank do you have the pair in? I had them as a reverse trio in a 15 for about a month with some young Mylochromis(Medium Malawi hap). Aggression may be worse with the pair, because I think the males distracted each other. If you have some small peacocks they may spread the aggression some.

At this point you probably want to put a divider in to protect the female. You probably want a 40 breeder or 55 for a group to breed them. You should probably be able to add another group or two. Probably mild mbuna would be the best combo.

I got a group of adults(4M/4F) at Aquamania. A pair was donated to the Silent auction(not sure who won them).

Ester has a trio from that group. It included a holding female that had 9 fry.

I sold the pair and the spare male at the PVAS auction.

i have had a divider in for the female.. put it in the day after i got them in the holding tank.. they were in with some juvie jewels, but when i separated the jewels to another tank, thats where i noticed the female got chased alot, so i put a divider in.. i have a spare 29 g.. although its weird that it isnt high.. it is 30L x 13 H x 18 W..guy i bought it from listed it as a 30 Breeder.. confused me because when i checked, it was a dimension of a 29.. but anyway, should this work for maybe a group of 1M/3-4 F ? i plan to acquire the females soon.. maybe just put alot of hiding places? They are an awesome pair..male is deeply colored.. :) thanks jesse! hehe..
