After reading the article in the latest Amazonas, I'm enamored of these little guys. Anyone local have any or know where I can purchase a pair?

Also, ask Josh. If he can't get them in, I know that a sponsor at the AACC donated some to one of Josh's tanks that he set up.

I had the same thought after reading it, too....but...

I've seen them at HOT, and the article said that there were several varietites of cichlid sold as "checkerboard" chchlids....do you remember which one the magazine talks about and which one HOT carries?

I have bought Checkerboards in the past from H.O.T, the ones I purchased were Crenacara Punculatem but have also seen Dicrossus for sale.

I recently purchased Di. filamentosum (lyretail checkerboard) at a store in NJ. Hopefully I will be breeding them by summer.

I have never seen Di. maculatus (round tail checkerboard) in any store, although I did see them at Mark Denaro's place a couple years ago.

Rapps has them now... He'll be at AquaMania if folks want to skip the cost / hassle / risk of shipping...

Dicrossus maculatus 1.5 18.00 persistently sought dwarf; wild Rio Tapajos spade tail checkerboard cichlid

I've kept and bred D. filementosum a few times over the years. Never successfully raised fry because I wasn't using RO water... They're not an easy one...

Who is Rapps? I would love a few CBs - would prefer flilamentosus, but will take maculatas.

Jeff will have a table at AquaMania and should be taking pre-orders when he gets back in town the week before the event.
