nice i'm goin catfishing tonight! i don't think the channel cats in the potomac up my way get that big tho. I'm supposed to go to the james river in september to a place that is rumored to have 60lb+ catfish!
what part of the potomac are you fishing?
MD DNR caught and released a 31lb channel catfish late last year (if im not mistaken). this would be a maryland state record. It was on the lower potomac somewhere around fort washington if memory serves me correct.
The bluecat population out there is also getting big. A 79lb bluecat was caught out around fort washington too. the fish was released before MD DNR had a chance to see it. But all the scales pointed to ~79 lbs.

Another fish, estimated at 82lbs via measurements and scales was caught recently from the potomac, but released before he even made it back to the boat ramp.
My biggest from the Potomac is a 38lb blue cat, dad got a 40lber last year.
As for the james river, the old Virginia state record came from there (102lbs). Which makes a 60lber look like a baby. they are constantly catching 70-80 fish out there.
the spawn has slowed the blue and flathead catfish bite recently but they are starting to get back into it. Hope you get a big one when you hit the james.
