ARE WET/DRY FILTERS NOISEY? THINKING ABOUT DOING ONE ON THE NEW TANK.

Not really, it's more the noise of the flow of water it pushes out.
I'm very happy with the one I have and it takes care of my Oceanic 92 gallon.

Iv got a real home brew one and I don't mind the noise at all.

I assume u have to keep the water level at a certain height, meaning not let it get too low.....

There are a lot of things you can do to quiet them, but they make noise. I wouldn't use one in a bedroom, living room and maybe a tv room depending on your tolerance for noise. You'll need some patience to implement all the fixes to quiet the overflows and the drip trays. It's doable and don't mean to turn you off to them (they are my favorite filters for big tanks) but they aren't quiet.
