Unusual Fish on Craigslist

I used to have a Raphael catfish when I was in college in one of those pre-fabbed palaudrim setups. After a couple days, never saw the thing again. Thought he died.

Then, was tearing down the tank 6 months later to move back to MD and there he was, wedged in the seam between two parts of the plastic background. Amazing.

Do they always hide to that extent?

I had one that hid all the time too. He would bury himself under driftwood or inside any decor he could squeeze into. They're nice looking, but shy and nocturnal. I would catch mine swimming aorund at night sometimes, but rarely saw him during the day.

I had a striped raphael once that got huge and lived over 10 years. They are nocturnal so I only saw him (her?) when the room lights were on and the tank lights off. Got him in an auction cause the wife liked him. Kept me and the fish on good terms for years!! :D

I've never had one that didn't hide... but they're basically indestructable. I forgot one in a tank that I tore down and had in the (unheated) garage for a week. There was wet gravel and maybe a couple of inches of water...found the cat alive and kicking...
