Two Cairn Terriers lost Manassas VA

Hey all, I know most here live north of me, but need to spread the word as far as possible. Weds evening late both my female Cairn Terriers went missing from my yard. I've put up flyers, stuffed literally 300+ mailboxes, hit many websites (social media) listing them as lost, gone to several shelters, contacted the cairn terrier rescue I volunteer for who will monitor many websites in case someone stole them and wants to sell them, paid for Home Again (there microchip vendor) to fax shelters and vets in Fairfax, PW and Stafford County's their missing poster. I'm sure I've done more in the past few days, but I'm scared, frantic and tired. There have been NO sightings, they have not shown up at my local shelters. If anyone sees them, please please call me. Thanks all...Loni

I really feel for you. I had a wheaten Cairn Terrier as a child. She wondered off once. Found her at a shelfer 3 months later.

I really hope you get her back.

Send me the poster via e-mail and I'll forward to all of my rescue contacts... rgoldr1@yahoo.com.

I hate to say it, but this is why you can never leave dogs unattended in your yard. People are total sh*t heads and will steal them. I hope you get them back.

Offer a BIG reward... maybe it'll make it worth someone's while to sell them back to you.

Like Becca said, there are some really sick people who steal loved family pets for little to no reason. Unfortunately I live pretty far up north from you so I don't think I can help much but I'll keep my eyes peeled. Good luck finding them.

My sympathies and mild outrage that anyone would steal someone's dog(s). Take's a very twisted being to harbor such a selfish sort of disease, made me wonder at the penalty/legal consequences for such but appears:

Because animals and pets are deemed property in Virginia, stealing them amounts to a larceny. Killing animals, taking them from their owners, or hurting them provides the an additional civil cause of action against the perpetrator under Virginia VA Code Section 3.2-6585, as a separate recourse from criminal larceny or criminal trespass. Animal larceny depends on the particular animal stolen. Larceny of a dog, horse, pony, mule, cow, steer, bull or calf is a Class 5 Felony under Virginia VA Code Section 18.2-97, which is a higher level crime than general Grand Larceny. Thus, a stolen dog is a much higher crime than theft of other household pets, including cats.

Grand larceny with intent to resell the merchandise carries a minimum prison penalty of 2 years! VA Code Section 18.2-108.01 states that when more than one of the same item is stolen in the course of a grand larceny, that is direct evidence of intent to resell those items.

So in VA at least, would appear that stealing not one but two dogs could/would carry a penalty at least as severe as that for Grand Larceny, i.e., minimum two years in prison.

Best of luck.

Thank you Sam. We're not convinced someone stole them, but can't remove the possibility from our thoughts. I'm hoping someone finds them and takes them to the shelter.

Thanks. I know they're not mine, but I lost my dog I had since I was 3 (10 years), and it sucked. Hope what Becca did helps.

WE FOUND THE GIRLS!!!! This is unbelievable, but sometime after Monday evening and Wednesday night they came home, and dug a tunnel in the terraces around our pool. The tunnel collapse, and they were buried alive. Weds night my daughter was doing our nightly every 20 mins calling, shake kibble, listen routine when she heard something coming from that direction. She called my husband, who was out at one of the other two stations we had set up, to come home. When they approached the terraces, they heard them whimpering in the ground. My amazing husband dug with his hands and freed both of them w/in 20 mins. They were rushed to Woodbridge Emergency Animal Hospital, Lucy was a little dehydrated, Izzy was not, both have conjunctivitis, probably from wading in stale water out in the wild. Both my cairns were lost in the woods an entire week, almost to the minute, buried alive for a couple of days, and all they sustained was pink eye!!! I def have an angel looking out for them.

They are on crate rest for a few days, which we'll use to partition off 1/4 of the yard, I hate to do this, but they will still have plenty of room to run and hunt.

I'd like to thank everyone here for their well wishes and support. It kept me going for the entire week.....
