I went into work this morning for a bit, but with nobody else on site, it was difficult to get anything done except for cleaning up my email and getting a few reports off my desk. I decided to stop by Rick's in Frederick on the way home to pick up some black worms.
They have had a tank fish labeled "Fenestratum" for about 6 months, and I was tempted to buy one a while back but decided against it. At the time, they all looked pretty much the same. The last time I went in several weeks ago, it looked like some of them were starting to "peel", like RD's and Midas often do. I had been following several threads on MFK about fenestratus and the different color variants and/or species collected from Lake Catemaco, so the peeling was of particular interest. When I checked them out in the tank today, I found the following beauty. The folks in the store weren't much help, including Rick himself. He told me that he gets his fish from a supplier up north, and that he bought these a while ago because he had never heard of them. Odd thing is that not all of the fish in the tank had changed. Some of them were showing the "typical" blue fenestratus coloring.
So I'm not entirely sure what to call the fish - pink fenstratus, pie bald, fenestratus, sp. Catemaco, or just fenestratus. Either way, I am pretty stoked about the new fish. Here are a few pics before I put it in the 180G. It's now managed to find a crevice between some rocks and is hiding otherwise I would have tried to get some pics out of the bag.
