Swim Fishy Swim!
Here's a vid and some so so pic's. I've had these guys going on 7 months. Most of that time they were little silver fish, but the last 2 months color has been developing. I love the black gills when they flair, I don't have any pic's of it though.

Great looking fish Mike. Yours are bigger than mine it seems like they are pretty slow growing.

Sweet fish and pics, Mike. What kind of video camera did you use? It came out really well.

Can you house that variety of fish (cutteri, ram, firemouth, thorichthys) in the same tank long-term?

That's always been one of my reasons for shying away from new world stuff... compared to Malawi haps and peacocks, they are rather intolerant of other fish.....

Very nice. Your set up is so clean looking. How do you keep it so clean and algae free?

I hear that pasionis get good sized but aren't aggressive like meeki.

I'd bet that our June speaker would know..,

you can definitely do communities of new world, and not even in crazy sized tanks if you keep the medium sized ones. Just harder for breeding and successfully raising fry...

Thanks, they grew slow the first 4 months than started putting on size fast.

kodak xi8, it's ok but limited in what it can do, to focus you have to be right on top of it in macro mode or 3.5' away in normal mode, the only zoom is digital so even a little zooming kills the quaility.

most of these fish have been together for nearly a year. I've had to move a few around to keep the piece as they grow but all in all it's worked out well. The murder rate has maintained it's self at zero. It's a great tank to watch, there is a ton of interaction, especially with the con's parenting skills.

I have a limited interest in breeding so I set this tank up with the idea breeding would be difficult and fry survival would be next to impossible. The convicts are the only ones that breed with any regularity and they have fry all the time. The fry don't last longer then 3 weeks and it's fresh snacks for everyone. The rainbows are the only others I've seen lay, but the eggs only lasted a day. The cutteri are the only others that display an interest in breeding and they mess with each other so much they don't breed, which is fine with me cause they can get nasty. I just pulled 2 males last weekend so they may pair up now. Overall the males want to eat and the females want to breed.

Food seems to be the main objective of the fish in this tank. Non-fish friends are always amazed at how these fish follow me around like dogs when I go near the tank.
