So I got a text tonight. The guy that I was buying the 150 from sold it to somebody else. Oh well...

I'm still on the hunt for a 125g or bigger tank for a good deal. If you know of anything let me know.

I have had this happen with all kinds of things on craigs list.

Last year I was buying a couch off some guy and I arranged a time to pick up an everything and then day of he called me right before the pick up time and told me someone came and picked it up the night before....I always thought that when you say ill take it and then arrange a time to pick it up that the seller would have enough class to not sell it to someone else.

A few months ago I found a 180 with stand for like $100 dollars and then the same thing happened....people on craigs list have no class.

What I have learned from this is when using craigs list is don't expected anything until its in your car on the way home.

It goes both ways. Having sold stuff on forums and on CL before, you have just as many folks backing out at the last minute or not showing as you have cases like this. When you want something gone, you want it gone.

I can't express how annoying this is... you get a ton of hits/emails on something, the first person tells you they'll be there to pick something up... you email 4 folks back telling them it's spoken for... you schedule, but the person is "busy" and will be there tomorrow/next weekend.... (wash, rinse, repeat)... they don't email back.... they never show. You're set back two weeks and lost legitimate interested parties because you tried to be a patient seller. It's a wicked pisser.

When you want something on CL... especially if it's a sick deal, you need to go there immediately to pick it up.

No offense to the OP as I don't know the circumstances. Just speaking from some of my experiences with getting burned trying to be the nice guy.

none taken.

I offered to pay for it in full or make a deposit he said it wasn't necessary. I was going to pick it up last weekend but I didn't have anybody on my end to unload. I arranged to rent a truck and get some movers for tomorrow. He sends me a text last night.

"we don't have the tank anymore."

CL = flakers and backpeddlers. I always include "first person with cash gets it"in my ads. Ive learned my lesson about holding stuff for people or waiting to go pick something up.

Tony, I guess I should had said "SOME people on craigs list have no class" or "Most people on craigs list have no class"

It seems like 50% of the time the people are awesome sellers and the other 50% they suck...but its craigs list what do you expect.

Oh no worries, homey. Just wanted to point out that it is as much of a pain (if not more of a pain) to sell than it is to buy stuff.

Then you have to consider other factors which make it hard for the seller to wait: pressure from the significant other, needing the tank space, needing the house space, needing the money, moving... All real reasons to do what Jose is talking about.

Wow that sucks... never happened to me before and I hope it doesn't.

I actually had a guy hold a like-new 125g (still had the stickers on it!) for TWO weeks and then even deliver it to my house after a 40minute drive! Granted I paid him gas money but it was awesome that the guy trusted me when I said I'll commit to it and went out of his way to sell it to me. He told me I was the first person to reply to the post and that he got like 20 other emails about it as well too.

Never fear, Matt - there will be another big tank!

I sold a bunch of stuff from my fishroom in Cali on Craigslist. It was a mixed bag.

My (least) favorite guy was the one who said that he was going to come by at 10AM on a Sunday to buy some fish...then arrived at 8:15 (while I was up the street at Starbucks), knocked on the door until my (angry) wife woke up and called me...and then tried to shake me down on every fish he wanted.

My favorite guy was the one who emailed me 6 minutes after I posted an add for 50 gallon plastic barrels...and came and got them 20 minutes later...with cash...and a pick-up (vs. trying to jam them into a Corolla)... on Thanksgiving!

Here is my story of wow - posted a 110g, guy came to pick it up, paid me then figured that the two of us couldn't get it out of the basement. He hasn't been back since - months later I still have it in the basement. About to post it again.

Oh please don't tell Caleb! He already has plans to stack the 55's and put 20's on the 120 to free up space!

Its free to whomever can get it out of the basement. Beware - this is a project tank - I'll throw in a tube of silicone.

I have a call in to my wife, I think I can come get it wednesday evening.. I work in Leesburg, so it's an easy run.

I wish I had known <lol> I was in Ashburn last night.
