I have had this with a few mbuna, was never able to get rid of it.

Most of the fish stores around me feed very little only once a day sometimes only once every two days. I assume they do this to keep water conditions better and cut back on water changes, i could be wrong. I have purchased most of my fish when they were extremely skinny I call it a negative stomach after a few weeks of eating well the problem disappears. That being said there is a condition usually parasitic in nature that leads to the same negative stomach look. It is often much worse and ime it also causes there spine to look bent. Before treating I would make sure its not malnutrition if your convinced its not seachem males a product paraguard that's treats internal external parasites. Good luck

I've had similar experiences as well. Sometimes, the fish are underfed. Try feeding the fish well for a couple of weeks and see if the condition improves.

I used Levimazole , I didn't see any difference in the fish. the fish continued to eat but look like hell warmed over. I had to euthanize the fish. full bag of water and fish into freezer.
Jesse I'm not sure why they get sunken belly but I have not found a cure.

Prazi-Pro is always worth a shot.

My recovery rates for fish with severely sunken bellies is also not good.

Sunken bellies could be a lot of things, fish TB being the worst.

Other things like Hex can be treated with Metro easily but you may have to mail order the drug from AngelsPlus.com. If they are eating still, get the medicated flake but if not use the powder, both work. If you see stringy white poop on the bottom, that is a clear indication of hex.

If it is fish TB, you can not cure it, do not even bother. The absolute best you could do is spend a lot on kanamycin (and this stuff is pricey) and temporarily keep it in check. It will come back and it is contagious and will stay in your tank until it is broken down and sanitized with a strong, strong bleach solution or oddly alcohol. This is a fairly common thing in ornamental fish since the turnover is high and most people think nothing of a fish dying after a year or so.

I do not think the other meds mentioned will help, but I am far from an authority. With Leva, the belly is distended and sometimes even the worms are visibly from the anus. I think prazi also works on gill flukes and tape worms, again not sounding like your fish. There is another drug, Flue.... something that is effective and can also be purchased as food from AngelsPlus.com
