Rocio Octofasciata (Jack Dempsey)

Post from Yesterday (in wrong forum): They laid eggs Friday, May 8 and they hatched on Sunday/Monday May 11th or 12th. There are a couple of hundred wigglers between the rocks.

I will post pictures when they are free swimming.

Update today: Mom decided to split them into two pits. Both parents guarding wigglers well.

A bit premature, perhaps. But... one of the females is holed up in a cave and a brilliant yellow. And, last night, just before I went to bed, I checked on them and the male was lemon yellow.

As this is my first experience with these guys, I'm going off what I've read. I should see free swimming fry in 9 days?

These are the coolest little fish!

Thought I had lost the spawn, I was wrong. Several hundred free swimmers this afternoon.

I did lose that Jack spawn, I guess the algae eater got tired of eating only algae...he's in a different tank now - luckily for him it wasn't the porcelain one...
