Spawns and Checking

It seems to be difficult to get folks to check spawns because of the distances that we all live from one another. I would propose to the BAP Chairman to allow video or photo for the initial required report of a spawn. However, I think this would open the door for the cheating kind to pull one over on the club.

If we would allow electronic reports for the first signature, I would recommend that the member would have had to attended 10 consecutive meetings in order to qualify for this priviledge.

What do you think?

I second that. Anything to make checking easier. Plus, anyone caught cheating should be
kicked out of the club.

hmm, BAP Chair??????????????????????????/

how about that and a spawning report posted to the website forum that at least indicates conditions and methods leading to spawn???

if that was included I would be in favor as well.

Ron's just making it hard so he never has to do my water changes (as stated in the BAP guidelines).

Greetings,

I thought about this quite a bit when I was drafting the guidelines.
I started off favorably inclined, but gradually decided it wasn't a great idea, if for no other reason than that, no matter how utilitarian the idea is, the use of video cameras partly defeats the purpose of this being a *club* activity requiring the involvement and interaction of club members. (There were other reasons, too, ranging from cheating issues to the advantage this would give people w/ digital cameras versus those dependent upon others to come verify their spawns.)

C'mon, I'm already giving credit to folks who are playing Dr. Frankenstein and breeding freaks of nature (e.g., albinos).
:D

I *might* be inclined toward a system in which people accrue points as checkers that they can then use to conduct a digital notification (e.g., check out five spawning reports in person and you would be allowed to verify one of yours via posting). But, I think we should consider this carefully. My feeling is that more interaction is better than less.

very good points Steve.

Maybe we can require the checkee to serve the checker some food and drinks when they come by to inspect???

Very good discussions. As much as this may hurt my reputation... I agree with Steve. I mean how far apart do we all live? 20-30 minutes? Would you drive that far to shop?

-- As the one who coined the phrase "I don't have time", it seems we find time for the things that are important. I personnally feel we could work a little harder at this and take one hour out of an evening and check out those cute little fry in someone else's tanks.

Come on folks, don't make this harder than it needs to be. :(

Oops I accidently sent my reply to only charlotte. my bad...anyway, I just said that my minimal number of fry are technically too old to be counted. I am hoping that since I wrote earlier that it will be considered still countable. Now if I can just keep 3 alive (this is the first spawn I am attempting to raise (rear if your an english stickler))
