Cavs land Shaq for Wallace, Pavlovic

By Adrian Wojanarowski
Yahoo sports.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement in principle to acquire Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O’Neal(notes), multiple sources involved in the talks told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night.
Cleveland will send Ben Wallace(notes), Sasha Pavlovic(notes), the 46th pick in Thursday’s draft and cash to the Suns for O’Neal.
Cleveland and Phoenix were both juggling multiple trade possibilities with other teams, with the Cavs involved with as many as six trade scenarios.
Yet the disappointing Eastern Conference finals loss to the Orlando Magic left Cavs GM Danny Ferry with incredible pressure to accumulate talent around James in the final season prior to his 2010 free agency. James has blessed the O’Neal trade, especially because it should give his overmatched frontline a chance to compete with Dwight Howard in the playoffs. Ferry and Phoenix GM Steve Kerr are close friends and had talked off and on about a Shaq deal since the February trade deadline.

O’Neal, 37, makes $21 million next season, and the Suns were determined to move him in a package that would save them money. Wallace made $14 million and could take a buyout to retire, and only $1.5 million of Pavlovic’s $4.9 million salary is guaranteed.

Interesting....

Not a good trade on Clevelands part...although the results will probably be the same. Love Shaq and all but he has definitely lost a lot from his old form. Cleveland should have pursued a solid big man that is up and coming if they really wanted to provide Lebron a long term shot at a championship.....Kobe V Shaq next year in the Finals could be fun though

PS: The Wizards trade was even worse.....giving up the fifth pick and three of their big men to get a point/shooting guard hybrid and a shooting guard/small forward hybrid, of which neither can play perimeter defense worth a **** was a really poor use of the fifth pick. The three players werent as big a deal since only Darius Songalia was a consistent player but it didnt improve their financial position in regards to the luxury tax and now they have to find some competent backup big men for cheap to fill the roster. I hope it works out but I am not optimistic

The bigger news was the US beating Spain in soccer to end Spains 35 game unbeaten streak and their 15 game winning streak(those **** ties in soccer) Spain hadnt lost in almost two and a half years and the US finally came up big. Lets hope they get used to winning in South Africa since the World Cup is being held there next year.

Yeah, you're absolutely right on the US game. Huge win for the USA and let's hope that we have the same success next year at this time in South Africa. I did not know about Spain's winning streak, thanx for the info Rob. So, am I going to have to attend a GWAPA meeting just see you and talk sports?

Oh SPAIN what a let down:(
Oh USA what a great win:D

Don't get me started on the Wizards, WTF is up with their trade with the timberwolves?????????????????? Here we go again, another losing season. In what right mind do you not think that a draft pick could help you out??? I thought they were in prime position to get Thabeet. I know I know he is not an offensive player BUT he is a shot blocker and PLAYS DEFENSE!! I am so mad at the WIZ right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently since I will not be at the BBQ and will not be on the road trip that if you feel the need to see me then you will have to make it to a GWAPA or possibly PVAS meeting. I know I will make GWAPA this saturday but thats about all I will commit to for the summer with all the other stuff I have going on.
