I have livebearers that include endlers (crayfish buddies ), swordtails, mollies, platys and, guppies (original 6 fish were feeders that a turtle didn't eat). I've always just let my livebearers breed at will, so to speak. But I have an itch to try my hand at selective breeding. I've decided to go with guppies and will be picking out my first pair tomorrow (I have a coupon for a free pair of the super fancy ones at Congressional). I was admiring how pretty they were just last weekend and I got a coupon for them today! I figure the guppies will be the easiest to start with and experiment with for the different patterns and traits. Also my tank size is limited and guppies are small. If I really like selective breeding and gain enough expertise in the area, I'll eventually move on to bigger and better fish.
I've done a ton of research (I research things that interest me to obsessive ends) and I have the breeder tanks all set up and ready to go. I was just wondering if anyone else on the forum was really into selective breeding and would be willing to share some of their experiences (good or bad).
