Resealing a METAFRAME

So, the beautiful Metaframe that I got at the PVAS auction with "no leaks" has actually "some leaks." On closer inspection, it was resealed with black silicon, which won't work with the slate bottom.

Has anyone ever tried resealing one, successfully?

My understanding is that the tar inside the seams can actually be reheated and liquidised, and will spread out, sealing the leak... so if I hit it with a heat gun, I might be able to seal it that way. Thoughts?

Id slowly heat the glass first bringing it up to temp so not to crack it. Maybe depending on size put it in the oven to slowly bring it up to temp then try heat gun then back in oven to bring it back down

This is what was used on the one I'm attempting to reseal at some point. I think we have a heat gun... I'm glad to know this in advance, but not sure how I can scrape off the silicone without damaging the tar seal.

I was at one time looking at picking up one of these that leaked. In searching the interwebs I found a few instances where people soaked their tanks in hot water (not sure how hot or how long) and the tar would melt and reseal the tank. In another instance someone had a piece of glass cut for the bottom of the tank and placed it over the slate bottom and then just siliconed the glass in which became the new bottom.

Is it possible to get the same type of "tar" sealant that was used in the past?
