I have found that many smaller cichlids in larger tanks tend to be skittish, especially when there are not many of them in the tank together. You could try adding a school of tiger barbs or some other robust "dither" to help calm the rtm.

I don't keep your particular type of fish but had a similar issue. When I introduce new fish to my tank I do not feed live food. This particular fish was extremely light sensitive. I left the tank lights on but the room lights off during feedings and he would come out and feed. Now, since it's been over a month, the fish got the treat of live blood worms. Now he is a glutinous beggar like the rest of them regardless of light. Mommy=worms. Out all the time regardless of light (I should say he is by far the largest fish in the tank). Bribery has seemed to work in my case, even though introducing live food rather that sterilized frozen is an entirely different discussion- and I prefer frozen IMHO. But live solved this particular problem- and increased the growth rate in the juvies in my tank as a bonus! Those with more experience with your fish type can give better answers and I wish you the best of luck :).
