Red cherry shrimp problem

Hey guys I know I haven't been on for a while but I have a problem with my rcs colony. They have stopped breeding. They are in a planted 40 breeder with just some catfish and khuli loaches. Whats going on?

Depends on the catfish. If it can fit in the mouth, they can eat it. Plecos you should be find, but others you have to be careful.

I've noticed that my colony sometimes goes through a phase where there aren't any new babies. After a bit they start up again.

My first thought would be the fish are preying on the babies. It could be that some of the fish figured out where the "shrimp buffet" is located. I agree with Arlene that plecos are about the only fish I would trust with RCS. I didn't really have any success with RCS until I had them in with only plecos.

Although it could be like Christine said, that they are just taking a break. Maybe they all decide to be "just friends" at the same time lol

One option might be taking a berried female and putting her in a net breeder with some java moss. If you get a breeder net full of babies, and few in the tank it is likely the predation angel.

I have mine in a tank with no other fish, maybe I should start some population control and get a fish in there with them.

You have to watch the hardness and pH. Red cherries need hard water for their shells. If the calcium level in the water drops to low, they'll die off.

I have the opposite problem, my water is too hard, and they don't survive. Last year I started a 4g using RO water and my tap water. I started with 7 shrimlets from Rachel, today I have 100's.....
